Decadent French Toast Recipe

Posted on June 11, 2009April 22, 2025 by Mandy

We had a little weekend getaway in Hermann, MO and stayed at the beautiful Wine Valley Inn. They made a wonderful Decadent French Toast for breakfast, and graciously shared the recipe with me. It was warm and sweet and would be perfect for Christmas or a birthday breakfast in bed! They said it’s great to serve at a B&B because you make it the night before, regrigerate it and just bake it in the morning; a huge time saver!

Decadent French Toast – courtesty of the Wine Valley Inn

1 C butter

1 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

3 T light corn syrup

16 slices of Texas toast bread (cut off the crusts, make 3 layers)

8 eggs

2 cups milk

2 tsp vanilla extract

Melt the butter in a two-quart microwave safe dish. Add brown sugar and corn syrup. In the microwave, bring the mixture to a boil. Pour mixture in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Place bread in the pan stacked 2 slices deep. In a medium bowl beat the eggs, milk and vanilla extract together and pour over the bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 60 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with a dollup of sour cream and jam on top, or just eat plain. Makes 8 servings.
